Michael Morgan

Michael S. Morgan — Chairman

As Chief Executive, Michael S. Morgan is responsible for strategic planning, risk management, investment decisions and product development. His strategy of selecting the most talented professionals in the business, geographic diversification and conservative financial structure has led the company to successfully develop properties in eight states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Tennessee and Texas. Since 1989, the Houston-based firm has developed more than 18,000 units, with a cost of more than $2.1 billion.

In conjunction with his day-to-day duties, Michael serves on the Board of Trustees for the Kinkaid School and the Holocaust Museum Houston as well as the Advisory Board for Casa de Esperanza. He was also the past Chairman of The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Houston. He is active professionally on the Board of Directors for the National Multi Housing Council (NMHC) and is a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI). He is a past executive committee member of the Houston Chapter of the Young President's Organization (YPO) and a current member the World President's Organization (WPO) and Chief Executives Organization (CEO).

Michael holds a BBS with a major in real estate and construction management from the University of Denver.

Philip Morgan

Philip Morgan — Chief Executive Officer

As Chief Executive Officer, Philip is responsible for leading MORGAN's strategic planning and growth across all business activities – development, acquisitions, construction and property management. Philip chairs the Executive Committee and serves on the firm’s Investment Committee.

Since joining MORGAN, Philip has been involved in the development and acquisitions of over 7,000 units at a cost exceeding $1.8B in Texas, Arizona, California, Colorado and Florida. Prior to joining MORGAN, Philip co-founded BlueRoot Partners to take advantage of opportunities acquiring distressed real estate assets in Texas. His experience also includes evaluating real estate debt investment opportunities while at CBRE Capital Partners in New York and assessing student housing development opportunities while at Campus Living Villages.

Philip holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania. Philip is an active member of Urban Land Institute (ULI), the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC), and is on the Multifamily Leadership Board for the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

Alan Patton

Alan Patton — Vice Chairman

Alan Patton serves as Vice Chairman of The Morgan Group, Inc. As Chairman of the Investment Committee, Alan is involved in all aspects of development and construction nationally. He also serves on Executive Committee. Under Alan’s leadership and beginning in 1998, Morgan has developed over 17,000 units at a cost of more than $2.5 billion.

As an independent director, Alan was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Monogram Residential Trust (a NYSE company “MORE”) until its sale to Greystar in 2017.

Alan was a Senior Managing Director and started the national multifamily platform at Hines in 2011.

Other experience includes the managing director of the Chase Bank of Texas Realty Advisory Group. During his eight-year tenure, he developed and managed Chase’s Real Estate mezzanine financing product and worked in the Real Estate Workout/Restructuring Group. He began his career at Miner-Dederick, a Houston-based high rise contractor.

He is on the Board of the National Multi Housing Council and a council member of the Urban Land Institute. He has an MBA and BS Finance from the University of Houston – Clear Lake.

Stan Levy

Stan Levy — Chief Operating Officer

Stan Levy serves as Chief Operating Officer of MORGAN. Stan’s responsibilities include arranging debt and equity financing, managing the property disposition process, and asset management oversight for all of MORGAN’s assets. Stan serves on the firm’s Executive Committee and Investment Committee. Stan has closed over $3.0 billion of transactions for MORGAN.

Stan was one of the founding executive officers of Cadence Bancorporation, where he was integrally involved in a startup that raised $1.0 billion in equity and subsequently acquired several banks and has grown to $18 billion in assets across a six-state region. Stan began his career at JPMorgan Chase & Co., where he worked for 15 years and served as Managing Director of Real Estate & Lodging Investment Banking for the Southern Region.

Stan graduated with honors from The University of Texas with a BBA in Finance. Stan serves as a director of the Holocaust Museum Houston Foundation and previously served as a director of Hines Real Estate Investment Trust, Inc., advisory director of Cadence Bancorp LLC, and as an Executive Committee board member for The Emery/Weiner School. Stan is a past President of the Board of The Shlenker School in Houston. He is an active member of the National Multi-Housing Council.

Paulina Marvan

Paulina Marvan — Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer

Paulina Marvan is responsible for all aspects of MORGAN's Accounting and Administration duties. Prior to joining MORGAN in June of 2015, Paulina worked for IDI-Gazeley (formerly Verde Realty) for 11 years, she was VP/Controller overseeing the reporting, property, development and corporate accounting groups in the US and Mexico.

Paulina has 20+ years of accounting experience in several real estate industries, including internal audit experience at Security Capital Group.

Paulina has a B.S. and M.S. in Accounting, both from the University of Central Florida. She has been a licensed CPA in the state of TX since 2000.

David Elstein

David Elstein — Senior Vice President of Construction, National

As National Head of Construction, David is responsible for the day to day construction operations of all new development projects across nationally. Since joining MORGAN in 2018, David held executive roles with some of South Florida ‘s largest General Contractors.

Prior to joining MORGAN, David responsibilities included P&L for over $1 Billion in large construction projects throughout the Southeast United States, including 2,000 multifamily units, 5,000,000 sf of retail space, 3,500,000 sf of hi rise residential mixed use and over 100,000 sf of medical.

David attended Texas A&M University where he earned his BS in Construction Science. David holds his General Contractor's License in Florida.

Rosalind McLeroy

Rosalind McLeroy — Senior Vice President and General Counsel

Rosalind McLeroy joined MORGAN as General Counsel in 1997. Prior to her arrival at MORGAN, Rosalind was an Associate with the Houston law firm Baker Botts, L.L.P., specializing in commercial real estate. While at Baker Botts, Rosalind represented both lenders and developers in all aspects of transactional real estate, including acquisitions, sales, project financing, design and development, construction and leasing.

Rosalind is responsible for addressing legal issues that come up in the day-to-day operations of the company. She also handles all of the company's transactional real estate matters, ranging from subcontractor negotiations to multi-million dollar project financings.

Rosalind graduated in 1985 from Louisiana State University in Shreveport with a BS degree, summa cum laude, in economics. She received her JD, with honors, from the University of Houston Law School in 1988.

Shelly Watson

Shelley Watson — Executive Vice President, Operations

Shelley Watson serves as the Executive Vice President of Operations and is responsible for Property Management, Accounting and Human Resources for the company. She joined Morgan in January 2014 as the Senior Vice President of National Property Management. She was the recipient of the Bill Morgan Award in 2017, chairs the Leadership Committee, and is a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Prior to joining The Morgan Group, Shelley was a Managing Director with Greystar in Austin, Texas where she worked for 6 years and was responsible for 12,000 units. Experienced in conventional, value add renovations, senior housing, repositions, and new construction lease ups with direct supervision of over 40 lease ups in Texas.

Shelley has over 25 years of multi-family experience, including supervision of 3rd party assets with Riverstone and Alliance. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of Louisiana – Monroe. Shelley also serves as Vice President at Large for the Houston Apartment Association and has also served as an HAA Board Member since 2017. She is also a Delegate for the Texas Apartment Association and is a member of CREW Houston.

Joe Arentz

Joe Arentz — Senior Vice President, National Property Management

With over 28 years of experience in the multi-family industry, Joe’s career spans conventional, affordable and student property types specifically Class A development, mid-rise and high-rise construction since 1995. Specializing in lease-up, property repositioning and brand management; his base of knowledge includes market analysis, due diligence, new construction feasibility, marketing strategy and maximizing operational performance. Joe joined Morgan in October 2018. In addition to property management experience with Greystar Real Estate Partners and Riverstone Residential Group, his expertise includes positions within the marketing consulting and advertising sector of the multi-family industry.

Evan Schlecker

Evan Schlecker — President

As President of Morgan Group, Evan Schlecker manages risk for MORGAN with oversight over development and construction activities nationwide. Evan maintains involvement in all aspects of apartment development, construction, management, and finance. Evan serves as a member of MORGAN’s Executive Committee and Investment Committee.

Since joining MORGAN in 2012, Evan has been involved in the development and acquisition of over 7,000 units at a cost exceeding $1.8B. Prior to joining MORGAN, Evan co-founded BlueRoot Partners to take advantage of opportunities acquiring distressed real estate. Evan began his career at Torchlight Investors (f/k/a ING Clarion) restructuring non-performing commercial real estate.

Evan holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania with concentrations in real estate and finance. Evan is an accredited LEED professional, a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC), and is on the Multifamily Leadership Board for the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

Kamil Salame

Kamil Salame — City Partner, Central Florida

Kamil is responsible for development efforts in Central Florida, including sourcing new opportunities and overseeing all aspects of the development process.

Since joining MORGAN, Kamil has been involved in the development of over 1,000 units at a cost of $330 million. Prior to joining MORGAN, Kamil served as an Associate with The Kislak Organization, a Miami-based real estate investment firm, where he focused on the sourcing, acquisition and disposition of opportunistic, value-add and development multifamily investments, totaling over 3,400 units across the U.S.

Kamil graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Real Estate and Finance and is a member of the Urban Land Institute.

Stephen Frazee – Dallas/Fort Worth City Partner

Stephen Frazee – Dallas/Fort Worth City Partner

Stephen is responsible for development efforts in Dallas / Fort Worth, including sourcing new opportunities and overseeing all aspects of the development process.

Prior to joining Morgan, Stephen served as a Development Manager with JPI, a Dallas-based multifamily development and construction management company. Throughout his career, Stephen has been involved with the development of over 5,500 units at a cost in excess of $1B all located in the DFW metroplex.

Stephen Holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Real Estate from Baylor University.

Adam Wallace – Denver City Partner

Adam Wallace – Denver City Partner

Adam comes to Morgan after 5 years at Cypress Real Estate Advisors, where he most recently served as the local manager of Cypress development activity in Denver market. Over the course of his real estate career, Adam has been a part of the development or asset management of over 4,000 units with a total capitalization of $900MM. In Denver, Adam played a key role in the development activity of over 2,000 units or $500MM of capital and was instrumental in the acquisition of over $70MM of land. Adam holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Amherst College and is a local member of the Colorado BUILT organization.

Nick Laettner

Nick Laettner — City Partner, Development

As City Partner in Houston, TX, Nick is responsible for all development activities, including sourcing new investment opportunities, planning and design.

Prior to joining MORGAN in July 2018, Nick served as Vice President in Wells Fargo’s Real Estate Banking Group, which provides a broad range of financial products to experienced commercial real estate developers. During his career, Nick held positions in Owned Real Estate, CMBS origination & underwriting, tax credit, institutional client, portfolio management & defeasance groups.

Nick holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from St. Lawrence University and is a former member of the Urban Land Institute and NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association.

Richard A. Buck

Richard A. Buck — Senior Vice President, Development and Head of the East Region

Richard oversees all aspects of the development activities in MORGAN’s East Region with our regional office located in Miami. He joined MORGAN in 2012 and his team is focused on sourcing and developing high-quality investment grade properties primarily in Florida.

A veteran real estate developer, Richard has served in various leadership roles with nationally recognized multifamily developers such as Post Properties, Colonial Properties Trust, Altman Development and Crescent Resources LLC. Throughout his 25 plus years of service in the construction management and development industry, Richard has provided leadership to the acquisition, design, entitlement, construction, lease-up and/or disposition of over 8,000 multifamily units and 1,500 single-family lots, across four states.

Richard holds a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from Auburn University. Richard served in the United States military, honorably discharged as a 1LT Infantry Officer assigned to A Co/1st Bn/ 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne) after 11 years with the USAR and ALANG.

He and his wife, Kristy (M-1993), along with their six children live in Palm City, Florida where he serves as an Elder at Treasure Coast Presbyterian Church (PCA).

Hugo Pacanins

Hugo Pacanins — Regional Development Partner, South Florida

Hugo is responsible for development efforts in South Florida, including sourcing new opportunities and overseeing all aspects of the development process.

Prior to joining MORGAN, Hugo served as Managing Director - Multifamily for RAM Realty Advisors, a Palm Beach Gardens real estate investment firm, where he led the multifamily development team an oversaw the development of over 4,600 residential units and 400,000sf of retail space at a cost of over $1B across the southeast region.

Hugo was born in Venezuela and graduated with honors from UCAB (Caracas, Venezuela) with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and then received his M.B.A. from UC Berkeley. Hugo is an active member of the Urban Land Institute and has served in on the Community Involvement Roundtable of the Broward County Metropolitan Planning Organization.

Jenny Bermudez

Jenny Bermudez — Development Project Manager

As Development Project Manager for the Southeast Region of Florida, Jenny oversees selection of the Consultant Teams to develop MORGAN's projects. She manages the design process from Site Plan approval to Construction permit. She supervises the preparation and coordination of good quality documents to expedite the permit process, facilitate construction, and keep the projects within budget while meeting MORGAN's objectives and clients expectations.

Jenny has over 15 years of experience in the Design, Development and Project Management of Multi-Million dollar Hi-End condominium, and hospitality markets in South Florida. Prior to joining MORGAN she worked at Fortune International Group on multiple High Rise; previous to that she work directly for the City of Miami Beach Planning Department and Architecture firms in Florida. Jenny holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Florida and Masters of Architecture from the Florida International University.

Chris McGhee

Chris McGhee — Vice President, Asset & Risk Management

Chris oversees the financial performance of MORGAN’s real estate assets and is responsible for placing insurance across all of MORGAN’S operations and projects as well as administering MORGAN’s vendor compliance program.

Chris began his career in real estate as a commercial office leasing representative in 2005 before transitioning into loan servicing and asset management with HFF, LP.

Chris holds an M.S. in Land Development degree from Texas A&M University and earned his undergraduate degree from Texas State University.

Karen Thomas

Karen Thomas — Vice President of Human Resources

Karen Thomas serves as the Vice President of Human Resources for the company. Karen has been in the multi-family real estate business for over 25 years, where she spent eighteen years as Vice President of Human Resources for The Hanover Company, and two years at Allen Harrison Company as the Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining MORGAN, Karen was Managing Partner at DFL & Associates, a recruiting firm, where she specialized in placing top talent for large real estate companies throughout the US.

Karen’s passion is in helping people and identifying individual strengths to assist both the company and the employees to achieve success. A great company culture with strong core values are very important to Karen, and she has found that at MORGAN. Karen holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Professionals.

Joe Melton

Joe Melton — Vice President of Marketing and Management Support Services

Joe Melton joined MORGAN in 2013 and serves as the VP of Marketing and Management Support Services. He is responsible for all areas of marketing for existing assets and all new development for the company. Prior to joining MORGAN, Joe was the National Project Coordinator for Camden Property Trust in Houston, Texas where he worked for 14 ½ years. Joe is experienced in conventional, repositions, websites, reputation management, employee training, and new construction lease ups. Joe has 22 years of multi-family experience, and has been involved in the development and opening of over 25 lease ups nationally. He has worked in almost every market in the country, and is currently building MORGAN internal marketing platform.

Jock Naponic

Jock Naponic — Vice President of Investments

Jock's primary responsibilities include acquisitions, capital markets, and asset management of MORGAN's existing portfolio.

Jock Naponic previously served as Executive Vice President of Originations with Bank of the Ozarks Real Estate Specialties Group, which focused on providing construction and bridge lending facilities for commercial real estate projects. During his five-year tenure with the bank, Mr. Naponic opened and managed the bank's Houston Loan Production Office and was integrally involved in the origination and financing of over $1BN in commercial real estate projects. Jock began his career at Bank of America in their real estate structured finance group, where he worked as both a commercial real estate underwriter and CMBS originations analyst.

Jock graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a BBA in Finance and Accounting and received his MBA from Southern Methodist University.

Tim Medrano

Tim Medrano — Vice President, Capital Markets and Investor Relations

Tim focuses his efforts on debt and equity financing, financial underwriting and investor relations.

Tim previously served as a Senior Real Estate Analyst at Berkadia Commercial Mortgage where he was responsible for financial analysis among a wide range of real estate transactions including permanent debt, bridge and equity financing. Tim began his career at HFF where he served in a variety of roles that included multifamily underwriting under HFF’s Freddie Mac platform.

Tim graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree and is a member of the Urban Land Institute.

David Whitby

David Whitby — Vice President, Capital Markets

David Whitby serves as Vice President of Capital Markets for the Morgan Group (MORGAN). David is responsible for working with MORGAN's development partners and senior management team to raise equity capital needed to finance MORGAN's future growth initiatives. David has extensive experience in structuring acquisitions, negotiating debt, asset management, investor relations, dispositions and raising capital.

Prior to MORGAN, David was CEO at Elite Street Capital where he led the team that successfully acquired and managed 26 multifamily assets (valued at over $800M) totaling over 6,500 units across a seven-state region. Prior to Elite Street, David spent nearly a decade with ARA (now NKF), a leading apartment brokerage firm engaged in arranging debt, equity, and property sales.

David graduated from the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelors degree in Finance. David is a devoted husband and father of two.

Sarah Teten

Sarah Teten — Assistant General Counsel

Sarah Teten joined MORGAN as Assistant General Counsel in 2013. Sarah’s primary responsibilities are handling legal matters at MORGAN and assisting and supporting the General Counsel and other MORGAN team members.

Prior to her arrival at MORGAN, Sarah was an Associate with the Houston law firm Vinson & Elkins, LLP, specializing in finance and capital markets.

Sarah graduated in 2007 with highest honors from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.B.A. degree in finance. She received her JD from the University of Houston Law School in 2010, graduating cum laude.

Michelle Wilson

Michelle Wilson — Vice President/Controller

Michelle serves as Vice President/Controller for MORGAN’s property management division. She is primarily responsible for financial reporting and related systems for all wholly owned, joint venture and third party portfolios.

Michelle graduated from the University of Houston with a BBA in accounting and has 20 years of real estate accounting experience.

HELENA P. FINLEY

Helena P. Finley — SVP of Construction Operations

As Senior Vice President of Construction Operations Helena is responsible for developing and standardizing construction operations for new development projects nationally. Since joining MORGAN in 2013 Helena has completed eleven projects with a total of 2,562 apartment units.

Helena is a seasoned Construction Executive with broad expertise in planning, implementing, and evaluating the construction of large multi-family projects. Prior to working for Morgan Group Development she managed the construction of high end class-A multi-family projects for Trammel Crow, Gables and Post Properties. She has been responsible for the construction of 26 major multi-family projects with a total of 5,840 units and a total combined cost of 646 million dollars. Major projects include Pearl Marketplace (including a Whole Foods grocery store), Pearl CityCentre, Pearl Residences, 4400 Syracuse in Denver, Gables Memorial Hills, Gables Park Plaza in Austin, and Post 510 Richmond.

Helena was recruited from South Africa on a full swimming scholarship to the University of Houston where she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree. Helena competed for the South African National Swimming team and was an All- American Collegiate swimmer. She has competed in many ultra-distance events including six Colorado River 100 mile kayak races, Leadville Trail 100 MTB, a 100 mile mountain bike race, several multi-day adventure races, triathlons, marathons and Iron Man Texas.

Julie Stephenson

Julie Stephenson — Assistant General Counsel

Julie Stephenson joined MORGAN as Assistant General Counsel in 2019. Julie supports the General Counsel and other MORGAN team members by handling MORGAN's day-to-day legal issues and transactional matters, including acquisitions, dispositions, general development, and financing.

Prior to her arrival at MORGAN, Julie was an Associate in the Houston office of the law firm Winstead PC, where she specialized in commercial real estate development and finance.

Julie graduated in 2009 from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. in public relations. She received her JD in 2013 from South Texas College of Law, graduating magna cum laude.

Nick Rivera

Nick Rivera - Vice President East Coast Region / Construction

Nick Rivera is responsible for the day to day construction operations of all new development projects in the South East Region. Nick joined the Morgan Group in 2020 but worked with the Morgan Group in 2016 when he managed the construction of MORGAN’s Midtown 29 project in Miami with a 3rd party General Contractor.

Prior to joining MORGAN, Nick managed construction operations of multiple high profile commercial construction projects in the Florida market for 2 of the country’s largest and prestigious construction firms. Nick’s most recent projects totaled over 3 million sf of high rise commercial/residential space totaling over $1 Billion.

Nick graduated from the University of Florida’s M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Construction with a Bachelor’s of Science in Construction Management.

Jarrett W. Ewing

Jarrett W. Ewing — Development Project Manager

Jarrett joined Morgan Group in 2018 as Development Project Manager for the Central region of Texas. He manages the design and development of MORGAN’s new construction projects and ensures achievement of the project’s objectives and expectations.

Jarrett has over 14 years of experience in project leadership, strategic planning, client development and design concept development. Prior to joining Morgan, as a Project Architect for HOK, Jarrett was instrumental in the design of over 7 million square feet of new and renovated corporate, commercial, hospitality and healthcare construction in Houston and throughout the world.

Through Jarrett’s contagious leadership and creativity, he is able to challenge his peers, as well as clients to think beyond what a typical end-user facility can become and how we can make responsible and sustainable decisions to support our global environment.

Jarrett has earned both a Master’s of Architecture and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Prairie View A&M University where he remains an integral part of the collegiate architecture community.

Jason Hauck

Jason Hauck — Regional Development Partner

Jason Hauck, Regional Development Partner, is responsible for MORGAN’s development activities in Texas, including sourcing new opportunities and overseeing all aspects of the development process.

Prior to joining MORGAN, Jason was Director of Development for Trinsic Residential Group, a multi-family development company. Jason was responsible for starting the company’s Central Texas office as well as sourcing and executing new development projects throughout Austin and San Antonio. During his time with Trinsic, Jason was involved with the development of more than 7,100 units in various markets throughout Texas. Jason began his career with Bank of Texas’ commercial real estate group.

Jason holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Accounting from Texas Christian University and a Chartered Financial Analyst designation from the CFA Institute. Jason is an active member of the Real Estate Council of Austin and was a member of The Real Estate Council’s 2017 Associate Leadership Council in Dallas.

Travis Russell - Austin Development Manager

Travis Russell - Austin Development Manager

As Development Manager, Travis helps oversee and execute pre-development activities for all pursuit and pipeline projects including initial feasibility, planning and design, due diligence and financial evaluation.

Prior to joining MORGAN in 2018, Travis served as a Senior Real Estate Analyst at Berkadia Commercial Mortgage where he was responsible for evaluating and closing a wide range of real estate transactions for clients seeking debt and equity financing.

Travis graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.

Dani Click

Dani Click — Vice President of Investments

Dani’s primary responsibilities include acquisitions in the Austin and Phoenix markets.

Prior to joining Morgan Group Dani Click held several investments related positions at CWS Capital Partners. During her almost 9 year tenure she served on both the acquisitions and asset management teams. Most recently she was the investments lead for acquisitions and dispositions in Houston and San Antonio. Dani’s investment background spans the major Texas markets, Phoenix, Denver, Seattle, Atlanta, Charlotte and Raleigh. She has also worked on both student housing and conventional acquisitions. Her contributions were part of CWS’ portfolio growth of over 10,000 units, including over $1.5B worth of transactions.

Dani graduated from Pepperdine University with a bachelors in Business Administration.
